Bužim proudly calls itself a knight town, and not without reason. The name originates from the time of the 505th Knight Brigade led by General Izet Nanić. The brigade became a symbol of courage, defense and valor during the defensive-liberation war.

General Izet Nanić, a native of Bužim, became a legend in his lifetime. Today, his name is carried by streets, tournaments and festivals. The football tournament “Izet Nanić” held during the Freedom Days is one of the ways the memory of his work is preserved.

The knight tradition is not only about warfare - it is a way of life. Honor, honesty, protection of the weak, care for the community - these are the values that the people of Bužim still nurture today. Festivals, sports events and cultural programs are imbued with this spirit.

Every year, during the Freedom Days of the Knight Town Bužim, this tradition is celebrated in full splendor. The ascent to Čorkovača, laying of wreaths, panel discussions and gatherings - all are ways to remind the new generation of the values that define the identity of this region.
