Old Town Bužim is the central tourist attraction of the town. The fortress spans three levels with an irregular quadrilateral layout, featuring multiple towers and ramparts. After centuries of neglect, restoration and conservation work is now underway.

History

About the Old Town

Old Town Bužim is a medieval fortress located on a hill above the present-day town. First mentioned in 1334 under the name Čava, as an estate of the Babonić princes. Throughout history, the fortress changed hands between various feudal lords including the Blagaj and Frankopan families. Today it is a protected national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
