Every year, from August 4 to 15, Bužim becomes a gathering center for thousands of people from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora. The Liberation Days of the Knightly City of Bužim is the largest and most significant event in this region, ongoing for three decades.

History of the Event

The Liberation Days have been held since 1996, with the central occasion being the anniversary of the formation of the legendary 505th Knightly Mountain Brigade. The event was conceived as a way to preserve the memory of the heroic struggle and pay tribute to fallen defenders, but also as an opportunity for community gatherings and promotion of cultural and sporting spirit.

Religious Program

The event traditionally begins on August 4 with Quran Evenings - a spiritual program that gathers believers and sets the tone for the entire event.

Sports Activities

One of the most famous sports events is the “Izet Nanić” football tournament, which attracts teams from across the region. Additionally, tournaments in volleyball, shooting, chess and table tennis are organized, along with an international veterans tournament and a traditional marathon.

Cultural Program

Special value is given by the rich cultural program - panel discussions, exhibitions, book promotions, folklore and sevdah evenings. Local cultural-artistic societies showcase their skills, while performers from other cities also guest perform.

Hiking and Cycling Ascent

One of the most emotional events is the ascent to Ćorkovača, the site where General Izet Nanić and his comrades fell. Participants pay tribute to the heroes with a tevhid prayer and a historical lecture “Remembering the Heroes”.

Closing Ceremony

The event culminates on August 15, marking the anniversary of the founding of the 505th Knightly Brigade. The central ceremony includes paying respects to all defenders of the homeland, a military program, and a communal gathering of thousands.
